This panoramic photograph of Philadelphia was taken by James Blakeway and features a twilight view of downtown Philadelphia with the Schuylkill River in the foreground. Philadelphia is a city known for having much significance in United States history. The Quakers, Philadelphia's first settlers, arrived in 1681 and prospered in trade and commerce, making the city the leading port in the colonies. The first and second Continental Congresses convened here, and Philadelphia became the headquarters of the revolution. The city continued to be the main seat of the new federal government until 1800.
