Saint Louis, Missouri

This panoramic photograph of St. Louis was taken by James Blakeway and features the downtown skyline as seen from across the Mississippi River. Most prominent in the skyline is the Jefferson Expansion Memorial Gateway Arch. This 630-foot icon is St. Louis' tallest structure and symbolizes St. Louis' role as "Gateway to the West." People can take a four-minute ride on a space-capsule-type car to the top of the arch to enjoy spectacular views. To the right is Edward Jones Dome, home to the St. Louis Rams football team. St. Louis is one of the oldest settlements in the Mississippi Valley and was founded as a fur-trading post.
