I grew up in Derbyshire near the outstanding Peak District National Park. My early influences include the work of locally acclaimed artists such as Joseph Wright and the later French impressionist painter, Renoir.
I always enjoyed painting at school and was lucky enough to have an excellent teacher who transformed my work. It is only recently taken that I decided to take up art as a profession.
The subjects I choose have to inspire me in some way. Externally, there is nothing more beautiful than the natural world and much of my work is based upon this. I always look for the interesting tiny details in colour or, shape. Every picture that I produce has to be one that I would be happy to live with. It has to be appealing to the eye or, on a deeper level.
