Jack Vettriano is one of Britain's best selling artists - the rich and famous are among the names on the long waiting list for new works by this most important Contemporary Scottish painter.
Vettriano was born in 1951. He rose from the obscurity of the coalfields in Fife, where he was a mining engineer, to be Britain's most popular narrative painter. Although he never received formal training, his only training was the inspiration from seeing the collection of paintings in his local Kirkcaldy museum as he grew up, in 1988 the committed artist began his career as a painter at the Royal Scottish Academy.
His first paintings were met with great enthusiasm. Ever since, Jack Vettriano has enjoyed a meteoric rise. All of his exhibitions sell out within a matter of minutes of opening time. Such is the demand that to be lucky enough to own one of his highly prized original paintings means a long wait (apparently 200 people are in a waiting list for his work). Vettriano has forged a unique place for himself amongst Britain's artists.
