Born in Beckenham in 1942, John Morley studied at the Beckenham Art School, at Ravensbourne College of Art and at The Royal Academy Schools. Along with his successful artistic work, John Morley has also enjoyed a long career as a lecturer and has held positions at Epsom Schools of Art, Suffolk College, Westminster School and The Royal Academy Schools.
In 1982 the BBC made a film about him for the Omnibus television series, called ‘A Week in the Country’. In 1985 he was awarded the Sir Herbert Baker Scholarship by the Royal Academy and a few years later was elected a Brother of the Art Workers Guild. He was also invited to become a member of the Society of Woodengravers in 1996.
John Morley has exhibited his beautiful floral paintings at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition since 1962 and at the Piccadilly Gallery since 1977. His work has also been shown at many international fairs and he has received prizes and awards from such prestigious bodies as the Arts Council of Great Britain, the Royal Academy of Arts and the Museum of Modern Art, Wales.
John Morley’s work is also held in the public collections of the Arts Council of Great Britain, the Ashmolean Museum, Glasgow City Art Gallery, The National Trust and The Victoria and Albert Museum.
